A little introduction

A "short" introduction about me...

Intro...
I am Danos (officially Daniƫl, but most friends and relatives call me Danos), 24 years old and I live in Dordrecht, The Netherlands. At the moment I have a fulltime job in marketing I started with after my graduation as bachelor in Marketing Management (took me 6 years but who cares? :P).

A bit of history…
I play poker online for about 3.5 years, playing a lot during my student life but with my actual fulltime job I have to create time to play poker. Before playing online poker I already enjoyed playing games with a money factor included and mostly played at school or with friends games like Toepen, Fivecard Draw, Roulette etc.

Online poker...
Going back 3.5 years I got in touch with online poker and started playing Sit and Goes and Tournaments. Like many poker players started these days I started playing on Everest Poker, where it was possible to play SnG’s (the famous Shastha’s) for free and win real money. But after a few months the fun of playing these Shastha’s was gone and I decided to make a small deposit of $50 (maybe even as a present by friends for my birthday, can’t remember exactly).

With this $50 I continued playing SnG’s and Tournaments on Everest, of course my skill level was rather low as a beginning player but considering the load of even more terrible players on Everest I managed to create a reasonable bankroll.

During my poker-sessions I started searching for poker websites to learn more about the game and the best strategies, I got in touch with pokerinfo.nl and pokernews.nl. Two poker communities where strategy articles are posted and hands are discussed. I used these websites as a source to improve my game and to learn more about the world of poker in general.

I still visit these communities almost on a daily basis, mostly reading at pokernews.nl and being more active on pokerinfo.nl by discussing hands or just joining the chat. Mainly because pokerinfo.nl is a smaller but stronger community where discussing poker and fun are the most important values.

From Everest to Pokerstars…
After Everest Poker decided to lock my account because I had sent some funds to Everest accounts from friends using my Neteller account, I moved to Pokerstars. At that time Pokerstars was a much more popular website with loads of players, larger tournaments and more crazy players from the USA. So it seemed the right decision to start playing on Pokerstars and I continued playing SnG’s and MTT’s which was profitable for me. My bankroll grew mostly because of some good results in the weekly private MTT’s offered by Pokernews.

Then I started working on a fulltime base which resulted in playing more as a recreational player, keywords are playing many (too) expensive MTT’s with highly attractive price pools. But unfortunately I was not able to make it to a final table and a big cash price. This had a rather negative influence on my bankroll :).

From Tourney to Cashpoker…
After my bankroll had a serious blast playing these expensive tournaments I realized I was evolved into a losing player, which wasn’t a very satisfying feeling. Losing money came along with losing the fun in playing poker. Therefore I decided several months ago that it was time for a change, and I decided to quit playing SnG’s and MTT’s and start playing (the more lucrative) cashgames. Mainly because of the time factor, tournament poker consumes a lot of time and the benefit of cashpoker is that you can stop a session whenever you want.
Besides that I have the feeling that the statistical evaluation and analysis of my own game and of my opponents has a greater influence in the net winnings in cashgames compared to tournament poker (where you always have to deal with the pressure of rising blind levels).

After playing some fullring cashgames I realized that 6max games should be more profitable and more fun since you play more hands and get more value out of exploiting the weaknesses of opponents.

Cash FTW???
Because I had few experience on playing cashgames I decided to start on very low stakes with the main focus on statistics, improving my game and beating the tables, I thought 10NL 6max would be a good start.

The average skill level on 10NL 6max is very very poor, but my opinion is if you can’t beat these micro limits it’s useless and wrong to move up to higher limits. So it’s basically playing as many hands as possible combined with structural analysis of statistics (I use Holdem Manager, which is a great tool) to find and improve leaks to become a solid cash player.

I think this is enough for my introduction, my next post will contain my experiences/results from the beginning of my “cash adventure”, I started in the first week of July, till now. Together with these results I will present my goals and how I want to achieve them in the upcoming months.

Come back to you soon!

Welcome!

Welcome to my pokerblog!

This blog is intended for everyone who is interested in my results and experiences playing (mostly) online poker. Writing a blog seems fun (even though updating this blog depends on several factors, mostly time and motivation) and I think it may help me controlling the most important aspects of winning in online poker; discipline, maintaining the poker mindset, tilt management or simply sharing frustrating bad beats and fantastic suckouts.

At this time my goal for this blog is as well to turn my experiences into short (strategic) articles where I will speak about various topics which I think are worth sharing with my dearest readers. When my enthusiasm writing this blog stays at a positive level I might even record some online poker-sessions and provide them to you as strategy videos.

This all depends on the motivation, time and effort I am willing to put in this blog.

In my next blogpost(s) I will tell something more about myself and the goals I have developing my online poker skills on short- and long-term including how I want to achieve these goals.

That’s it for now, best regards,

Danos
